Bonnie So is the owner of Soul of Chinese Harp. She has been a music lover ever since childhood. She started playing guzheng 古筝 (Chinese Harp/ zither) in middle school, and was attracted to its beauty, its dynamic, and its heavenly sound.
Before coming to the United States, she entered many competitions and performed in many places for events such as the Earth Day at the city town hall and the Mid Autumn festival celebration at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. At the age of 16, she was the winner of the first Hong Kong Guzheng Exhibition Competition in the Youth Junior Category held at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre .
Shortly after that, she furthered her studies at different universities in the United States. She also studied briefly with the guzheng Master Li Jiaxiang in Minnesota. While studying for various degrees and taking various music classes and conferences at different colleges, she continued to excel in the guzheng music to higher levels; mainly through exploring the different ways a guzheng can express itself.
Bonnie earned a BA degree in Psychology and an MBA degree in Arts Management. She also took many post-graduate courses in Education.
Currently she serves as the Music Director of a Cantonese congregation of her church located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She resides with her family in the Twin Cities area. She is a member of the Minnesota Music Coalition.
She is activity involved in music ministry at her church. She also volunteers at Hopewell Music Cooperative, a North Minneapolis based non-profit. Besides on performing, she also enjoy composing and rearranging hymal music on guzheng when she is free.
She finds inspiration all around her. She tries to make her music representative of herself and her Christian faith. She loves to improvise and rearrange the Christian hymns on guzheng to reflect the beauty of the creation and nature.
